The Calor Village of the Year competition both rewards innovation and commitment with a financial incentive, and raises the profile of rural life. It is based upon six major aspects of village life with categories for Community, Business, Young People, Older People, Environment and Information Technology. The judges look for well-balanced, pro-active caring communities which, irrespective of size, have made the best of local opportunities to maintain and enhance the quality of life for all residents. About 1.650 villages enter the competition each year. They do not only have a great fun in preparing and entering, but also reap real benefits, working together to engender a real sense of community spirit.
