Safety

No energy company can claim to be truly sustainable unless it has safety at its core. SHV Energy companies, wherever they operate, share this philosophy and are committed to safety policies that ensure that our customer, employees and the general public are well protected from any potential harm arising from our business. In countries where SHV Energy regards the regulatory framework as suboptimal to ensure a safe business approach, SHV Energy corporate standards will be applied and the local SHV Energy business will work actively with authorities to improve the safety standards applicable in that country.

Safety in the LPG industry is highly regulated in Western Europe, enshrined in EU directives and multilateral agreements. Additionally, comprehensive internationally-agreed technical standards cover product and equipment quality, storage, transportation, handling labeling, and use.

LPG industry associations have developed and share safety good practice guidelines. Major operations like SHV Energy typically use risk assessments and incorporate LPG activities within safety management systems to ensure a systematic approach is taken to the management of risk.

LPG’s versatility means that key safety risks arise in environments outside the direct control of LPG producers, handlers, and distributors, when the product is being used by customers in a variety of applications. SHV Energy provides guidance to customers on safe use, and product standards incorporate high specifications to ensure product integrity.
