“My family sometimes think I am crazy but I know exactly what I am doing. There is something magical about mountain ranges and I will always keep climbing”

Mountain man

Yann is a true mountain man. He grew up in the Alps and has been climbing some of the World’s most challenging peaks since he was 16. He has led several expeditions and is continuously trying to push boundaries. But he does not do it for the thrill.

Yann is very aware of value of mountain areas as reservoirs of biological diversity as well as great spiritual and historic interest and sees them as some of the world’s most beautiful and peaceful landscapes. Despite their massive scale, they often contain fragile, easily damaged ecosystems and local lifestyles, which are sensitive to external intrusion.

He believes that mountaineers, as well as many other people and organisations, should be very concerned about the future of the mountain environment. And that we should do everything we can to protect these pristine areas and make our footprint as small as possible.

I see myself as a mountain ambassador. Everywhere I go, I tell people about the beauty of the mountains but also about how delicate these eco-systems are. I have seen the effects of climate change and its impacts on glaciers first hand and I try to help people to understand that the way we live, directly affects our planet.

Environmentally conscious

As an environmentally conscious climber, Yann has given his energy choices a lot of thought.

LPG is highly compressed so a small container can pack a lot of fuel

Safe

LPG is easy to handle, does not leak and can be transported safely

Clean

Cooking with LPG emits virtually no soot and other emissions

LPG stoves offer many advantages. They are easy to refuel, easy to light, and easy to maintain. They are also numerous available brands and models and they are economical.

The biggest advantage of LPG is its ease of use. It is only required to simply screw the fuel bottle to the stove, open the valve and then ignite the fuel. No assembly, no preheat, no maintenance. For camping, LPG comes packaged in small, pressurized bottles. As the bottles cannot be refilled, there is no need for funnels and no risk of spillage. LPG stoves do not have to be pumped and  do not  require complicated priming. But most importantly, LPG is clean burning with no soot.

The temperature is regulated by the easy turn of a valve. Some models even come equipped with a piezoelectric igniter (like those found on barbeques) so there is no risk of burned fingers when lighting.

LPG has lower CO2 emissions than most other fuels, does not leak and what is so important in mountainous environments: produces no soot that can have a disastrous impact on glaciers
