SHV Energy supports Eco-Runner Team of Delft University of Technology in development of efficient hydrogen-powered city car

Efficient hydrogen-powered city car
SHV Energy has committed to support one of the ‘D:DREAM Teams’ of the Delft University of Technology: Eco-Runner Team Delft. D:DREAM is an acronym for Dream Realisation of Extremely Advanced Machines. The goal of the Eco-Runner team is to design, produce and race the world’s most efficient hydrogen-powered city car, with which it aims to win the Shell Eco-marathon competition in London in 2020.

Antonios Kouzelis, on behalf of Team Eco-Runner X: “We thank SHV Energy for their support and look forward to a strong partnership. With their help, our team is able to carry out our project and fulfil our vision of promoting a sustainable future by building the world’s most efficient hydrogen-powered city car.”

Eco-Runner Team Delft is a multidisciplinary and multinational team consisting of 25 top students from diverse faculties of the Delft University of Technology. From managing fellow students to the production of their vehicle, the team is completely run by students. They dedicate a year of full-time work in order to complete their project.

In the past, Eco-Runner Team Delft has participated in the hydrogen category of the Shell Eco-Marathon Prototype class. In the Prototype-class, the vehicle is designed to travel a certain distance using the least amount of fuel, with little to no regulations concerning the car’s appearance. This year, the new Eco-Runner Team Delft has decided to take on an ambitious challenge. It is changing the design of their core product by competing in a more challenging class of the competition: The Urban Concept class. This provides the students with the opportunity to design and build a vehicle that more closely resembles an ordinary city car; a substantial leap towards building an actual hydrogen-driven city car and a future with sustainable mobility.
