At SHV Energy we are all responsible for looking after each other and the environment. The health, safety and wellbeing of our employees, contractors and customers is our topmost priority.

The safety of our employees and those who work on our behalf is the number one focus area of our business. 


Safeguarding the wellbeing of the employees who make our business operations possible, as well as our customers, is a key part of ensuring our impact on the world around us is as positive as possible. It is our ambition and determination to have zero incidents. 

To support this goal, all employees, and contractors of SHV Energy are empowered, encouraged and expected not to work in any unsafe condition, or any condition that they believe to be unsafe.

Our focus points

There are several activities that we are engaging in to improve the health, safety and well-being of our employees and others.

Creating an operational discipline and process safety roadmap. This analysis focused on ensuring that the highest standards of technical safety are respected within our operations, particularly relating to the prevention of any uncontrolled release and the secure containment of our gas products. In 2020, with this analysis now complete, we will apply any learnings and continue to drive excellence in health and safety.
Our new global health and safety strategic KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) focus more on proactive and preventative indicators to prevent incidents and near misses happening in the first instance.
This programme focuses on developing health and safety leadership across the organisation, through understanding key factors that shall promote safe working practices. Ultimately, our strategy is built upon the knowledge that “nothing is so urgent or important that we cannot take time to do it safely”.
Our responsibility to ensure the health and safety for all our stakeholders does not only apply to our employees, contractors and our operations. Ensuring our customers know how to use our products safely is just as important. In 2019, we launched a review of all our customer incidents to determine their root cause and understand how we can both improve our products and educate our customers better. This is aimed at achieving our 2030 goal of no fatalities, injuries, occupational illnesses or disablement as a result of our products or operations.
