SUPERGAS India's auto-ordering technology

SUPERGAS’s Innovation team has successfully implemented the auto-ordering of cylinders through Electronic Auto Changeover Device Plus (EACD) Plus. The system is now designed to be integrated into installations at industrial customer sites.

Many industries deal with critical production processes and machinery that need a constant and consistent supply of gas. Any mistakes can impact the production and machinery and disrupt their business operations.

Solving customer challenges

With this challenge in mind, SUPERGAS introduced the Electronic Auto Changeover Device (EACD) in 2010, through which automatic switchover happens between the cylinder batteries. Further advancing our solution, we upgraded this EACD to EACD Plus in 2017. This is the modified version of EACD which gives text message and email notifications to the customer and SUPERGAS when the cylinder needs changing.

Taking this to the next level, SUPERGAS has now introduced auto-ordering through the implementation of Robotic Process Automation (RPA), which further increases the effectiveness of the ordering system. SUPERGAS’s IT team programmed the RPA Bot in-house, enabling it to create orders in our system and send automated emails to the customer notifying them of the order creation.

Piloting and scale-up

SUPERGAS started piloting the project on 16th April 2021 with five customers. The IT and Innovation teams closely monitored the workability of the solution. Different exceptions were observed and control measures were taken to address or eliminate these exceptions.

Feedback from customers and our own customer service team helped in sharpening its effectiveness. We have now scaled the pilot up to 80 customers, with a plan to take it to 300+ in the coming year.

We are working with the data collected through the RPA bot to better understand our customers’ consumption patterns. We plan to develop a predictive model that can predict future customer orders, thus improving order planning further.

A win-win situation

Customer wins:

  • No manual ordering is required, hence nil chances of missed orders
  • Reduced effort for customers and time savings of approximately 5 minutes per orderInstant auto-order generation and notification
  • Increased peace of mind

SUPERGAS wins:

  • Improved delivery planning
  • Competitive advantage
  • The creation of a changeover database helps our business analytics and may lead to predictive orders in the future
