SHV Energy’s subsidiary in Bangladesh, Petromax LPG, is the country’s first LPG operator to get cleaner, safer, affordable energy directly to end consumers. Called Direct Delivery, the service started as a pilot in a rural district in northern Bangladesh, where there is no natural gas connection, and more polluting fuels, such as woody biomass and rice husk briquettes, are widely used for cooking. While rural villagers had access to LPG, dealers sold the fuel above government-approved pricing, making it unaffordable for many.
By cutting out dealers and retailers, the Direct Delivery service offers users a more competitive price as well as the convenience of home delivery. A trained Petromax employee delivers and installs the gas cylinder and teaches consumers how to safely use LPG. The technician performs a safety check, informs users about the ‘Petromax 5 Golden Rules of Home Safety’ with LPG, and explains the benefits of using a cleaner energy source.
As LPG emits lower emissions than more polluting alternatives, it’s proven to be better for the environment. And with virtually no particulate matter emissions, LPG also improves indoor and outdoor air quality, which ensures better health for families and communities.
Given the success of the service, Petromax is now expanding its Direct Delivery locations across the country and opening its first retail shops – the first of their kind in the Bangladesh LPG industry. Customer surveys have made it clear that price, delivery time, and perceived safety and quality of the product are the most important considerations for consumers across the country.
