Creating awareness is key. SHV Energy’s Ethics & Compliance (E&C) function provides tailored ethics and compliance training for employees. This includes e-learnings and classroom sessions delivered to the target audience by E&C colleagues in the business. E&C colleagues also travel to the locations to provide further explanation to frontline colleagues and address and explain the Speak Up mechanism. We spoke to three E&C colleagues across the group.
Liquigas Italy
In 2024, I took up the position of Compliance Officer at SHV Energy, a challenging and rewarding role that has underlined for me the importance of ethics and compliance in protecting the company and its employees and ensuring a safe and positive working environment. With the support of SHV Energy's Ethics & Compliance (E&C) function, I have worked to bring E&C closer to employees throughout the organisation and safeguard the important values that E&C embody.
I have had the opportunity to visit many of our locations and spend time with people who make up the company, sharing experiences, listening and explaining, and finding a “common language” to initiate a process of enhancing awareness and trust. Recognising diversity and incorporating it into our thinking has made in-person training more effective – helping colleagues to feel comfortable expressing themselves and raising their hands if something is not in line with our Code of Conduct or values. Working with my colleague from Calor GB, has allowed me to immerse myself in her reality, an experience that has enabled us to develop new initiatives to uphold the values that unite the wider SHV family of companies.

Calor GB
In recent years, I have made it a priority to spend time at Calor’s operational facilities, taking site tours and meeting colleagues in their work environments, including on the production line. This approach has helped colleagues feel more at ease, as the setting was relatively informal and allowed for open conversations. By meeting in small groups, colleagues were able to ask questions and engage in meaningful, and confidential, discussions. I shared insights into the compliance requirements specific to each role, as the risks faced by the Management Team are quite different from those faced by drivers or salespersons, for example. The trust and rapport we established through face-to-face meetings was invaluable. I was lucky enough to join my Liquigas colleague on a similar site visit, which reinforced to those we met that they are part of the wider SHV family, and subject to the same rules and behaviours.
"Visiting operational sites has been invaluable in strengthening our shared commitment to upholding the same ethical standards."

Petromax Bangladesh
Following its acquisition by SHV Energy in 2022, Petromax LPG has introduced various E&C policies including a new Code of Conduct (CoC) and Business Partner Code of Conduct (BPCoC), reinforcing these through extensive in-person and online training for different locations and target audiences. These interactive sessions have equipped employees with the knowledge they need to navigate ethical dilemmas in their day-to-day work.
Building on this, in November 2024 Petromax held its first-ever E&C Week, bringing enthusiastic participants from the company and across the wider SHV Energy community. The week included a series of activities and events that underlined our commitment to integrity, transparency and ethical business practices. These included four location-based townhalls, led by representatives from the SHV Energy Board and the Petromax Management Team, as well as quiz competitions, compliance room examination, daily messages from the desk of Management Team members, and the distribution of employee ‘goody bags’ containing compliance messages.
Additionally, a series of Speak Up case investigations played a crucial role in fostering a safe and transparent work environment. Each case was handled with confidentiality and diligence, reinforcing employees’ trust in the system.
"Let’s be ethically compliant" was the slogan for embedding an ethical culture in the newly acquired Petromax business in Bangladesh."
