Reducing road transport incidents through root cause analysis

In 2019, the management team at SUPERGAS India was concerned about the number of road transport incidents that were happening in the business unit. In response, they arranged a transport safety training week in Hyderabad

The first two days of the week were dedicated to analysis, where operational staff from all over India came together to discuss incidents, perform root cause analysis to identify their causes and identify common themes.

Subsequently, the management team held a transport contractors safety meeting, where all the transport companies working for SUPERGAS India came together for a full-day meeting to discuss transport safety. The participants focused on identifying corrective actions based on the identified root cause of incidents.

“"I would recommend that every SHV Energy business unit avails of this training in order to fully understand the underlying cause of incidents"”

The outcome of the training week was a dramatic improvement in the investigation of transport incidents. The meeting was therefore a significant success and will become an annual event, enabling SUPERGAS India to continue driving continuous improvement in road transport safety.

Siva Sankara Subramanian Maheswaran, Health and Safety Manager at SUPERGAS India, found the week of activities to be very beneficial. He expands, “I would recommend that every SHV Energy business unit avails of this training in order to fully understand the underlying cause of incidents.”
